About Neuro-Rehabilitation
Neuro-Rehabilitation is a specialized field of medical care that focuses on assisting individuals who have suffered from neurological disorders, injuries or illnesses. The primary goal is to help patients regain as much function and independence as possible, enhancing their quality of life.
This complex and multifaceted process involves a team of healthcare professionals, including doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and psychologists, who work together to create individualized treatment plans.
Spasticity Clinic
Spasticity is a muscle control disorder that is triggered by damaged nerve pathways in the brain or spinal cord. It causes muscles to tightly contract and can interfere with balance, walking, movement and speech.
Spasticity can be caused by a stroke, spine or brain injury, multiple sclerosis (MS) or cerebral palsy.
The symptoms of spasticity can vary greatly depending on the severity of the injury or illness. Varying from mild to severe, common symptoms include:
- Increased muscle tone
- Muscle spasms
- Painful, tight joints
- Involuntary crossing of the legs
- Reduced mobility
- Bone and joint deformities

Treatment
Individuals with less-severe cases may find relief from stretching and range of motion exercises, Botox injections to the affected area and orally administered muscle relaxers.
Severe cases can be treated with baclofen pumps which deliver muscle relaxants and antispasmatic medications directly to the spinal canal. Surgery is effective to release a tendon or cut the nerve-muscle pathway.
