Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive
Penelope Gorsuch is a healthcare executive with more than 37 years of nursing experience, including 27 years in progressive leadership. As senior vice president and chief nurse executive, she is responsible for nursing practice and quality standards across Summa Health System, SummaCare, Summa Health Medical Group, call center and ambulatory care, and ancillary services. She leads more than 3,000 employees and oversees an operating budget supporting over $1.5 billion in gross revenue.
Penny’s role includes the development of systems and processes that support a culture of excellence, staff engagement, and patient- and family-centered care. She established The Center for Clinical Inquiry at Summa Health, which promotes evidence-based practice (EBT) and professional inquiry among clinical teams.
A retired Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps, Penny served for 28 years, contributing her expertise to both military and civilian healthcare systems. She has published work on EBT and creating cultures of inquiry, and has led initiatives promoting value-based, reliable care in national organizations.
Penny holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Touro University Nevada, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with specialties in Acute Care NP and Critical Care CNS from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Brenau Women’s College. She is board-certified in Nursing Executive Advanced Practice (NEA-BC) and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP-C), and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). Additionally, Penny serves as an assistant professor in the DNP Nurse Executive Track at The Ohio State University College of Nursing.

Kyle Anderson, associate chief nursing officer, oversees critical care, emergency departments and inpatient women’s health nursing units. He has extensive experience in critical care, having been a supervisor and director across various intensive care units.
Kyle earned his Master of Science in Nursing and Leadership from Walden University, Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University, and associate's degree from Germanna Community College. Amy Dawson, associate chief nursing officer, has 19 years of clinical experience in medical-surgical and progressive care nursing. She started as a critical care nurse and spent eight years at the bedside before becoming a clinical nurse specialist, focusing on med/surg, progressive care and step-down populations. She then became a nurse manager of an inpatient telemetry unit, which contributed to her leadership skills before taking on her current role as associate chief nursing officer.
Amy holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Akron and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati. She also earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice at Case Western Reserve University in May 2025.

As a manager and educator for both new and experienced healthcare professionals, Amanda McComas is dedicated to nursing professional development. She has assessed, designed, developed, implemented, and evaluated numerous curricula, including orientation programs and ongoing education for nurses and interprofessionals. She works with academic partners across the state to develop and enhance clinical experiences and programs for future healthcare professionals.

Karen W. Hogan, DNP, RN, NE-BC
Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Behavioral Health
Karen Hogan serves as the associate chief nursing officer for Behavioral Health at Summa Health. Her leadership experience includes roles as chief nursing officer; director of behavioral health services, emergency services and Magnet®; head nurse manager for psychiatry service; and a centralized nursing professional development specialist across several Northeast Ohio health systems.
Karen has also held academic roles, serving on the clinical faculty at Case Western Reserve University’s Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing and as a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preceptor for the University of Akron, Kent State University, Capella University, Grand Canyon University, and Chamberlain University. Karrie Boss is the system director of evidence-based practice at Summa Health, where she leads strategic and operational initiatives for The Center for Clinical Inquiry®. She is responsible for implementing and evaluating evidence-based practice (EBP) and process improvement efforts across the organization to ensure clinical and operational decisions are grounded in the best available evidence.
Karrie collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to translate research into practice, guide policy development, and educate staff in EBP methodologies. She also oversees the infrastructure that supports staff in delivering high-quality, evidence-informed care and fosters a culture of continuous learning and innovation. She established the Clinical Nurse Specialist Academy at Summa Health and has led numerous systemwide initiatives to improve clinical practice.
Previously, Karrie served as an acute care clinical nurse specialist with experience in critical care, surgical, stroke, neuro, trauma and emergency nursing.
Karrie holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Akron, a Master of Science in Nursing from Kent State University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Kent State University. Karrie also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in evidence-based practice from The Ohio State University Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute. Sandra Germano serves as system director for nursing data analytics at Summa Health. Marc Benoy, MS, MBA, BSN, RN
Chief Nursing Information Officer
As chief nursing information officer at Summa Health, Marc Benoy provides strategic direction for clinical applications and leads systemwide initiatives that advance patient safety, quality outcomes, and operational efficiency. He has been instrumental in guiding Epic implementation, consolidating and streamlining applications, and building a high-performing Clinical Informatics team.
Marc partners with interdisciplinary teams to translate clinical practice needs into IT solutions that align with organizational goals. He established and leads the informatics department, connecting clinical and technical domains through strategy, governance, and integration. His approach emphasizes change management and lean principles, driving process efficiency, adoption of tools, and measurable results while balancing patient care, cost, and ROI. He also oversees application education, data governance and interoperability to ensure clinicians have reliable, secure access to information across disciplines.
Before joining Summa Health, Marc served as director of clinical applications & informatics at Tucson Medical Center, where he led major Epic implementations and upgrades, reorganized departments and governance structures, and introduced new technologies such as mobile tools, virtual care platforms, and automation solutions.
Earlier in his career, Marc spent more than a decade with Dignity Health (now CommonSpirit), where he managed clinical informatics and analytics and served as interim regional director. There, he directed EHR implementations with Meditech, Cerner, and AllScripts and established governance, analytics, and Meaningful Use compliance across four hospitals.
Amy Lukanski, DNP, RN, CPHQ
System Director, Nursing Professional Practice & Magnet
As system director of nursing professional practice and Magnet at Summa Health, Amy Lukanski provides strategic leadership for nursing operations, Magnet designation, professional governance and policy development. She brings more than six years of senior-level experience in clinical quality improvement and healthcare administration, advancing evidence-based initiatives across major health systems, including Summa Health and UPMC.
Amy began her career as a pediatric nurse, gaining broad clinical experience in orthopedics, neurosurgery, trauma, and general surgery, before moving into a clinical nurse educator role where she supported new graduates, continuing education, and certification programs.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice from Carlow University and her Master of Science in Nursing from Waynesburg University. Beyond her leadership roles, Amy has contributed as faculty at Waynesburg University and the University of Pittsburgh, served as a guest lecturer at Wake Forest University, and published research in peer-reviewed journals with a focus on evidence-based practice, implementation science, and healthcare improvement.
