The DAISY Award®
Summa Health nurses go above and beyond every day, and The DAISY Award® program is one special way we recognize their extraordinary compassion and clinical excellence.
Established in 1999, The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he passed away from complications of the autoimmune disease ITP. Moved by the care and kindness shown during his hospitalization, the Barnes family founded the DAISY Foundation to honor nurses in a meaningful, public way. DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.
More Than a Thank You
The DAISY Award offers patients, families and staff a powerful way to express gratitude to nurses who make a difference. It has become a global symbol of nursing excellence and a valuable tool for supporting nurse recruitment, retention and resilience.
How It Works
Anyone – patients, loved ones or colleagues – can nominate a licensed nurse who has demonstrated exceptional compassion and care. Winners are recognized in a special ceremony and receive:
- A personalized DAISY Award certificate
- The DAISY Award pin
- A hand-carved “Healer’s Touch” stone sculpture
- A spotlight on the international DAISY Foundation website
