TenJet® Therapy

Chronic tendon pain can make it difficult to stay active and enjoy everyday life. TenJet® Therapy is a minimally invasive treatment option for patients who haven’t found relief with conservative care such as rest, medication or physical therapy.

Using ultrasound guidance and a high-pressure saline stream, TenJet Therapy removes damaged tendon tissue while preserving healthy tissue. The procedure acts like a “power washer” for injured tendons, precisely targeting and removing scar tissue through a tiny incision – all without traditional open surgery.

TenJet Therapy has been used to treat chronic tendon conditions in the:

  • Shoulder (rotator cuff and biceps tendons)
  • Elbow (tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow)
  • Hip
  • Knee (patellar tendinitis/jumper’s knee)
  • Foot and ankle (Achilles tendinitis and plantar fasciitis)
  • Benefits include:
  • Quick outpatient procedure typically completed in 15–20 minutes
  • Performed under local anesthesia
  • Only damaged tissue is targeted
  • No stitches required – only a small bandage
  • Minimal downtime and faster recovery compared to open surgery
  • Patients are typically able to go home the same day
  • Often effective when rest, medication or physical therapy have not relieved symptoms
Ultrasound imaging is used to identify the exact location of the damaged tissue. Once the source of pain is identified, the physician numbs the area with a local anesthetic so you can remain awake during the procedure.

A specialized needle-like device is then inserted through a tiny incision. Using a high-pressure saline stream with continuous suction, the device breaks down and removes diseased tissue while helping protect the surrounding healthy tendon. Because the procedure is minimally invasive and highly targeted, recovery is typically much shorter than with traditional surgery.

Summa Health also performs Tenex Health TX® Therapy, which uses ultrasonic energy to remove damaged tendon tissue. To find out if TenJet or Tenex Therapy is right for you, call us at 330.835.5533.
