Trauma Education and Training

Summa Health partners with local, regional and national leaders in trauma education to offer ongoing opportunities to all our staff.

Continuing Education Opportunities

Summa Health recognizes that continuing education is one of the best ways we can improve patient care in the trauma setting. That’s why our trauma group partners with local, regional and national leaders in trauma education to offer ongoing opportunities to Summa Health staff. Some of the many opportunities we offer include:

  • Monthly multidisciplinary trauma conference
  • Registered nurse orientation
  • Annual trauma boot camp
  • Monthly trauma and mass casualty incident drills
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support® training
  • Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum® training
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation® training
  • Trauma Certified Registered Nurse® training

Northern Ohio Regional Trauma Network

Summa Health System – Akron and Barberton Campuses are members of the Northern Ohio Regional Trauma Network (NORTN), a program of the Akron Regional Hospital Association. The mission of NORTN is to collaboratively develop a regional trauma system and improve trauma care for the communities it serves through data evaluation, research, injury prevention and education.

Disaster Preparedness

As members of the Summa Health Disaster Preparedness Committee, the trauma team is actively involved in planning, conducting and evaluating the organization’s multiple victim/casualty incident drills. The lessons learned have implications beyond trauma readiness and have led to contributing published literature in the mass casualty incident space.
