Maternity Tours

Summa Health offers the most comprehensive maternal and newborn services in the greater Akron area. Despite more than 4,700 babies born each year at Summa Health, to us, each birth is special. The birthing center at our Akron Campus is proud to welcome your special delivery into the world.
 
We recognize how important it is to see firsthand the space where you will complete one of your most important life events. Whether you are a first-time mom or adding another member to your family, there is a wide variety of comfort options to explore at our birthing center. Designed with the comfort of home in mind, our birthing centers provide an environment that is sure to enhance your labor and delivery experience. Our maternity unit features 17 labor and delivery rooms in our patient tower along with 36 private suites for recovery.  

Our rooms feature:
  • Private mother/baby rooms
  • Ceramic-tiled showers (in suite)
  • Hydrotherapy tubs (in four suites)
  • Convertible chair/sofa/bed (in suite)
  • Gourmet dining (on demand ordering from on-site restaurant)
We currently offer the following birthing options:
  • Midwifery
  • Low-risk birthing rooms with little medical intervention
  • Birthing balls
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Level IV perinatal center for high-risk pregnancies
  • Maternal-fetal diagnostic center
  • Neonatal ICU staffed by Akron Children’s Hospital neonatologists and nurses
  • Kangaroo care (skin-to-skin contact of mother/baby)
  • On-site lactation specialist support
  • Rooming in with your baby, unless there is a medical need for nursery care
