Maternity Visitation Guidelines
All support people, visitors, doulas and patients need to check in at the access control desks at the main entrances of the hospital. They will be provided instructions to Labor and Delivery or postpartum when they arrive.
Summa Health’s system-wide visitor policy is subject to change as needs arise.
If a support person, visitor or doula is ill, has a fever or respiratory symptoms, they will not be allowed to stay. Visitors for Maternity patients should expect the following process:
- Triage
- Perinatal
- Labor & Delivery
- Postpartum
- NICU
- One (1) designated person will be allowed throughout the length of stay.
- If a patient has a certified doula, they are able to stay with the patient in addition to the designated support person. Please note that certified doulas will need to have a badge present.
- Three (3) visitors at a time are allowed to visit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. After 8 p.m., only one (1) visitor may stay the night and the overnight visitor must be over the age of 18.
- Visitors under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult, other than the patient, at all times.
- Two (2) designated support people for patients in labor. These people must remain the same throughout the entire stay on Labor & Delivery.
- If a patient has a certified doula, they may have three support people, including the doula. Please note that certified doulas will need to have a badge present.
- The designated support people must be over 18 years of age, unless they are the parent of the baby.
- Additional visitors or family members who would like to wait can do so on the Ground Floor of the Williams Tower between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
- In the Maternity OR, only one designated visitor will be allowed. If the patient has a certified doula, they may also be permitted to attend the delivery.
- Outside food is allowed to be brought back to the room, either from the cafeteria/Starbucks, ordered off the guest menu or purchased at an outside restaurant. You must meet the delivery person at the main entrance.
- Five (5) visitors at a time are allowed to visit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. After 8 p.m., only one (1) visitor may stay the night and the overnight visitor must be over the age of 18.
- Visitors under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult, other than the patient, at all times.
