AKRON, Ohio,December 16, 2019 – Summa Health President and CEO Dr. Cliff Deveny announced today that Summa provided $110.7 million in community benefit to area residents in 2018. These results are detailed in the system’s 2018 community benefit report.
“Giving back to the people we serve is a continuous focus across Summa Health and one of the most important things that we do,” said Dr. Deveny. “Whether through the services that we provide or the many partnerships we enjoy with agencies and other organizations throughout the area, we are committed to keeping our community strong, healthy and successful.”
Several components comprised Summa’s delivery of $110.7 million in community benefit – including $8.9 million in the net cost of traditional charity care, and $30.6 million in unpaid costs for Medicaid patients. In addition, Summa reported $23.6 million for education, $6.5 million for research, $29.8 million in subsidized health services, such as traumatic stress, senior health anddental care and $11.3 million for community health improvement services, programs and support.
