Safe Sleep Crib Installed in Summa Health Maternity Tower

AKRON, Ohio, September 1, 2020 – Summa Health announced this week the installment of a new safe sleep demonstration crib in the waiting room of the mother-baby unit in the new maternity tower on the Akron campus. Molly Ann Gries Safe Crib


The crib, donated by The Molly Ann Gries Foundation, serves as a visual reminder for parents and caregivers of the ABC’s of safe sleep – Alone, on the Back and in a Crib. The display includes a baby doll swaddled in a Summa Health sleeping sack for further visual demonstration of safe sleep practices. Mothers who deliver at Summa Health are given a sleep sack to take home with them as a continued reminder of safe sleep.

The Molly Ann Gries Foundation was established after Molly passed away due to unsafe sleep conditions at a sitter’s house. She was just ten weeks old. Molly’s parents have made it their mission to spread awareness about safe sleep practices through education and resource distribution.d deaths among U.S. babies each year due to unsafe sleep practices. At Summa Health, we are proud to support mothers and families in our community with educational tools and resources to prevent unsafe sleeping deaths. Summa Health is a National Certified Gold Safe Sleep Champion by Cribs for Kids. The installation of the safe sleep demonstration crib in the mother-baby unit will be viewable to all families who enter the waiting room and provide an additional support tool prior to bringing baby home for the first time.
