Date: 12/14/2020

AKRON, Ohio, December 14, 2020 – Summa Health announced today its Barberton and Akron Campuses were awarded with ‘A’ and ‘B’ grades respectively in the fall 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare.
Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, Leapfrog uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
“This safety grade underscores the responsible manner in which we take care of our patients and the communities we serve,” said Dr. Michael Hughes, president of the Summa Health System – Barberton Campus. “We are appreciative of the support from our hard-working and dedicated staff to support the wellbeing of those in need of care.”
The Leapfrog Group is an independent national organization driven by employers and other purchasers of healthcare committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. Additional information about the fall 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is available at
