AKRON, Ohio, May 27, 2020 – Summa Health announced today maternity services at the Summa Health System – Barberton Campus will resume on June 8, 2020 after being temporarily suspended.
The decision to temporarily suspended services on April 3, 2020 was made due to increasing cases of COVID-19 and out of an abundance of caution for pregnant patients. During that time, those patients were able to receive maternity services at Summa Health System – Akron Campus.
As COVID-19 cases decline in Ohio, the need for additional bed space on the Barberton Campus has subsided. Ensuring a smooth transition for pregnant patients is a top priority. Summa Health physicians are in the process of notifying them of this change effective June 8, 2020 and answering any questions that they have may have.
Recently, Summa Health System – Barberton Campus OB/GYN earned its fifth and final star from the Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies review committee, a voluntary breastfeeding designation program through the Ohio Hospital Association and Ohio Department of Health that recognizes maternity centers in Ohio for taking steps to promote, protect and support breastfeeding in their organization.
Summa Health looks forward to continuing multidisciplinary services of OB/GYN, delivery and pre/postnatal support and welcoming back patients in the Barberton and surrounding communities.
