SummaCare Names William Epling President

AKRON, Ohio, July 16, 2020 – SummaCare announced today it has named William Epling as its new president. He will join SummaCare on August 3 and will be responsible for overseeing the company’s day-to-day operations.

Epling brings more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare delivery and managed care industry. Prior to joining SummaCare, he most recently served as the president of EnvisionRx Options in Twinsburg, Ohio.

While at Envision, he was responsible for leading the overall operations and strategy of all business entities. This included Envision Insurance Company, a nationally licensed life & health insurance entity serving more than 850,000 Medicare Part D members; several pharmacy benefit management (PBM) companies; mail order and specialty pharmacies; a software company providing claims adjudication and administrative services to the PBM industry; a national prescription savings card business; and various other entities related to pharmacy services.

Prior to EnvisionRx Options, Epling held a variety of leadership roles, including president at WellCare of Ohio, Inc. and president and CEO at HomeTown Health Network. At WellCare of Ohio, he is credited with launching and developing government sponsored programs in Ohio for multiple Medicare and Medicaid product lines. At HomeTown Health Network, a provider sponsored health plan, he successfully grew the number of covered lives from 5,000 to more than 200,000.

Epling holds bachelors degrees in accounting and math from The Defiance College in Ohio. He resides in Norton, Ohio.

Bart Hester, who currently serves as SummaCare’s interim president, will continue with the organization as an advisor supporting Epling’s transition, as well as specific 2020 initiatives.
