Summa Health Recognized for Hospital Safety

Date: 04/29/2021

AKRON, Ohio, April 29, 2021 – Summa Health announced today its Barberton and Akron Campuses were awarded with 'A' and 'B' grades respectively in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing achievement in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare.

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, Leapfrog uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade's methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

"During a difficult time in healthcare, this distinction appropriately captures what is most important to our dedicated employees, the health and safety of our patients," said Dr. Michael Hughes, president of the Summa Health System - Barberton Campus. "I'm proud of the continued effort to always put our patients and the wellbeing of our communities first."

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national organization driven by employers and other purchasers of healthcare committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. Additional information about the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is available at
