Summa Health Appoints Three New Board Members

AKRON, Ohio, May 10, 2022 – The Summa Health Board of Directors this week announced the appointments of three new members, Almeta Cooper, Kathleen Geier and Edward Marx.

Cooper is an attorney with extensive experience in all sectors of the healthcare industry. She currently is employed by Moms Clean Air Force, a national non-profit organization of 1 million members that protects clean air and children's health. She is a member of its national team and is responsible for environmental justice, health equity and faith based programming. Cooper is also the principal of The AECooper Group which allows her to use her broad experience to help attorneys, small businesses, corporations and others through coaching, counseling and advising. She previously served as general counsel and corporate secretary for Morehouse School of Medicine and as associate general counsel and associate vice president for health sciences at The Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center. Cooper serves in a number of civic and community roles, including as a member of the National Church Services Board Committee on Senior Services and Innovation. She also recently completed two terms as member of the Health Care Cost Institute Board of Directors and is a former member of the Advisory Board of the Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Healthcare Industry Foundation.  

Geier recently retired as president of KTG Consulting LLC, a human resources firm specializing in executive coaching, succession planning and leadership and organization development. Prior to KTG, she held a variety of roles during a 30 year career at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, including senior vice president, global human resources. Geier currently serves as the Chair of the Board at Heidelberg University, Chair of the Summa Health Human Resources Committee, and previously served on the Boards of Leadership Akron, the Akron Area YMCA and the International Women’s Forum.  She also served as the moderator for The Commonwealth Institute of South Florida’s Strategies for Success Women’s Leadership Program.

Marx was recently named CEO of Divurgent, a mid-size healthcare tech consulting firm. An expert in the field of healthcare information technology, he has served in a variety of information technology roles across the U.S. Prior to joining Divurgent, he held the position of chief digital officer for Dallas-based Tech Mahindra Health & Life Sciences. He also has held positions at the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, HCA, the Advisory Board Company and other leading organizations. Marx also serves on a variety of boards, including GPO Health, Hillrom Clinical and Baxter Digital.
