SummaCare Names Dr. Matthew Voll as New Chief Medical Officer

AKRON, Ohio, September 22, 2025 – Today SummaCare announced Matthew Voll, D.O., MBA, as its new Chief Medical Officer (CMO), effective September 22, 2025. In this role, Dr. Voll will lead clinical strategy and quality initiatives, ensuring high-value care, regulatory compliance and strong performance across measures like STARS and HEDIS.

Dr. Voll brings a wide range of experience to SummaCare, including clinical expertise in emergency medicine from the Cleveland Clinic and a background in management consulting with a focus on financial optimization. He holds a Physician Executive MBA from the University of Tennessee, where he led development of an AI solution to summarize medical records.

Prior to joining SummaCare, Dr. Voll served as the regional medical director – Midwest for Humana Insurance, where he led Medicare Advantage initiatives and contributed to STARS performance efforts. He is also a veteran who served as a special operations combat medic in the Army’s elite 75th Ranger Regiment, providing trauma care in high-stakes environments. Additionally, he was the sole medical provider for the Team RWB National Relay, a group of elite athletes who set a world record by crossing the U.S. in 16 days on foot.

Dr. Voll is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and is board-certified in emergency medicine. His educational background includes a medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and a bachelor's degree in business, marketing and finance from Indiana University’s Bloomington Kelley School of Business.

SummaCare is an HMO and HMO-POS plan with a Medicare contract.  Enrollment in SummaCare depends on contract renewal. Every year Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system. SummaCare’s Medicare Advantage Plans have been recognized with 4.5-Star (out of 5) rating for 2025 by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
