Integrative Medicine

Summa Health Integrative Medicine emphasizes a holistic, patient-focused approach to healthcare and wellness.

Integrative Medicine Overview

Integrative Medicine is an approach that combines modern medical care and treatment with other complementary and alternative medicine therapies such as acupuncture, massage, mindfulness, reiki, and yoga. This approach is designed to facilitate the body’s innate healing response.

It emphasizes a holistic, patient-focused approach to healthcare and wellness—often including mental, emotional, functional, spiritual, social and community aspects. Healing the “whole person,” not just treating a specific symptom or disease, is considered the most important aspect. Integrative Medicine practitioners work to heal holistically – mind, body and spirit – and all evidence-based treatment and care options have equal weight.

Many integrative medicine therapies support the body’s natural ability to heal itself by reducing stress and promoting a state of relaxation. Working in concert with traditional medicine, they provide a comprehensive approach to healing the mind, body and spirit.

Integrative Medicine is a partnership between the patient and the practitioner that incorporates all aspects of a person’s lifestyle and considers all factors that influence health, wellness and disease. It has shown benefits in pain management, relief of symptoms in cancer patients and survivors, and in promoting healthy behaviors for overall health.
