Welcome to the Summa Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship website and thank you for your interest in our program! We were very excited and proud of our 3-year general cardiology fellowship that began with our first class in 2014 and became fully enrolled in July of 2016. We are excited to show you what we have created and strongly encourage you to consider our program for your cardiovascular medicine training.
Summa Health is a large healthcare delivery network of hospitals, outpatient clinics, a health insurance plan and research institutions in the Northeast Ohio/Akron city area. With a number of residency programs and fellowships, as well as affiliations with nearby medical schools including Northeast Ohio Medical University, Summa has a long history and focus towards medical education. Our fellowship program is based out of Summa Health System – Akron Campus, a level 1 trauma center and the flagship hospital of Summa Health with more than 700 inpatient beds. The Summa Health Heart and Vascular Institute in a high volume community center and has 25 well trained, academically minded staff cardiologists. We offer a comprehensive training program for fellows that include rigorous clinical training as well as ample opportunities for academic research and writing. Our training encompasses all core cardiovascular disciplines including noninvasive and interventional cardiology, structural heart disease, EP, heart failure, population health, cardiovascular imaging and adult congenital heart disease in collaboration with Akron Children’s Hospital. The Summa Health Heart and Vascular Institute is currently engaged in, and in some cases leading, a number of prominent clinical trials and is constantly pursuing additional studies to participate in.
