Training Course for Pet Visitation in Healthcare Training Course

Learn the skills needed to visit safely with your dog in hospitals, nursing homes, classrooms, and other facilities. Successful completion of this course, taught by Pet Partners licensed instructors, is required for registration as a Pet Partners team and for volunteers interested in Summa Health System's WAGtime program.

The WAGtime pet program of Summa Health System allows teams of trained pet owners and their dogs to visit with various patients and family members within Summa Health System – Akron and St. Thomas Campuses and Summa Rehab Hospitals. Pet visitation teams have a profound impact on the hospital patients they meet, bringing smiles to their faces and helping to lift their spirits.

Topics include:

  • How to tell if both you and your dog are a good fit for the Pet Partners Program
  • Preparing yourself and your dog for Pet Partners skill evaluations
  • Identifying and decreasing stress in your dog
  • Animal health and safety

Note: Attendees do not bring their dogs to this class.
