If you have kids active in sports, July is the perfect time to make sure all their paperwork is in order so they can get back on the field, court or mat. The Summa Health Orthopedic Institute offers a number of services for student athletes from sports physicals to pre-season baseline testing for concussions.

Pre-Season Physicals

The Summa Health Orthopedic Institute provides pre-participation sports physicals, which are required by school districts in order for your child to participate in a sport. These physicals will make sure your child is physically fit enough to play the desired sport and go over any concerns you may have.

Baseline Concussion Testing

I recommend pre-season cognitive testing for young athletes as a way to help a physician decide when, or if, it’s safe for the child to return to action after a concussion. Pre-season testing provides a baseline for comparison purposes if your child suffers a concussion. Summa Health’s sports medicine physicians also offer expert sports concussion care for anyone 12 years and older.

Wrestling Skin Checks

Due to the nature of wrestling, participants can suffer from a number of skin infections from ringworm to impetigo or even MRSA. Our sports medicine physicians offer weekly skin checks to all middle school, high school and college wrestlers by appointment at one of our offices.

The Summa Health Orthopedic Institute offers same day, next day appointments Monday-Friday at one of our locations. To schedule an appointment for one of these services, call 888.991.8104.
