Summa Health System’s Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship was instituted in 2006 and was in the first group of hospice and palliative medicine fellowship programs to receive accreditation through the ACGME. The program is based in the Department of Internal Medicine and is one year in length. The program prepares fellows to provide evidence-based interdisciplinary palliative care to the full spectrum of patients with advanced illness. Training includes focused research time and the expectation that Hospice and Palliative Fellows assume a “junior faculty” role during rotations. The fellows are directly involved in teaching medical students, residents and allied health professionals. The hospital’s partnership with Northeast Ohio Medical University brings students, residents, and fellows together to foster a strong educational environment.
Program Director: Themos Politis, M.D.
