Lisa Schroeder, M.D.
Program Director
Born in Ravenna, OH, she completed the combined six year B.S./M.D. program through the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and the University of Akron (graduating magna cum laude). She has been published in the 5-Minute Clinical Consult from 2005-2011 and has written book reviews for Family Medicine. Dr. Schroeder is married. She and her husband Bill enjoy spending time with their two children, as well as traveling and hiking. She also has been involved in martial arts and teaching Sunday school.
Nancy Flickinger, M.D.
Associate Director
Dr. Flickinger, a Barberton native, is a graduate of the 1981 charter class of Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. After her residency at a local Akron hospital, she was in private practice. She is also currently the Director for the Family Medicine Clerkship, a third year rotation requirement at NEOUCOM. She and her husband are the parents of a son.
Laura Novak, M.D., A.B.F.P.
Assistant Director
Dr. Novak received her B.A. in biology from the University of Toledo. She then attended The Ohio State University College of Medicine, graduating in 1980. After completing her Family Practice Residency at Toledo Hospital, she began teaching at Summa Health System – St. Thomas Campus' Family Practice Residency Program. She practiced for 10 years there and served as Undergraduate Director. Since joining the Summa Health System – Barberton Campus Family Practice Faculty, she has maintained her interests in obstetrics, pediatrics and women's healthcare. Dr. Novak and her husband Ed have a son. Her husband is a counselor.
Paul Lenz, M.D.
Assistant Director
Dr. Lenz, an Akron area native, graduated from The University of Toledo in 1990 with a B.A. degree in Biology. He completed his medical degree at The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1994 and finished a three year family medicine residency at Summa Health System – Barberton Campus in 1997. As a board-certified family physician, Dr. Lenz practiced locally with Community Healthcare in the Green and Hartville areas from 1997 to 2011 obtaining experience in hospital, office, and nursing home based medicine. In May of 2011, he joined the residency as a full-time faculty member. Dr. Lenz has special interests in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. Outside the office, he and his wife Kim are busy with their four children. Dr. Lenz also enjoys running, swimming, triathlon and other outdoor adventures.
Jonathan Edwards, M.D.
Assistant Director
Dr. Edwards is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. He completed his family medicine residency at Summa Health System – Barberton Campus. Dr. Edwards is a senior author for the Core Content Review of Family Medicine. He has published reviews, a case report, and correspondence in several medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, American Family Physician, and Cancer Prevention Research. Dr. Edwards has special interests in evidence-based medicine, prevention of cardiovascular disease and prostate disease. He is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Edwards and his wife, Karen, have four children. In his free time he enjoys spending time with family, running, singing in his church choir and following Cleveland Indians baseball.
Jennifer A. D'Abreau, D.O., F.A.A.F.P.
Assistant Director
Dr. D’Abreau joined Barberton Family Medicine as part time faculty in January, 2020. She graduated from Alma College in Michigan with a BS in Biology in 1989 and earned her medical degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1993. Following completion of residency at Akron General Medical Center she continued to work with the residency program until 2000 when Dr. D’Abreau joined the clinical staff at Kent State University Student Health Center treating faculty, staff and students. She is Board Certified and a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians. Her special interests are in preventative care and the care of women and children. Dr. D’Abreau is married to an OB/GYN and they are busy with their four sons. In her spare time, she enjoys time with family and friends, traveling, camping, gardening, and being a grandma.
Karen K. Kirk, MSASS, LISW
Director of Behavioral Science
Mrs. Kirk graduated from The University of Akron in 1989 with a B.A. in psychology. She graduated with a Masters in Social Administration with a special focus in Mental Health from Case Western Reserve University in 2000. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. Mrs. Kirk has clinical experience with geriatrics in long-term care, medical discharge planning, obstetrics, adoption, and marital and family counseling. Most recently her focus has been in private practice. Mrs. Kirk and her husband have two children. They enjoy sporting events and travel.
Alexia Lishnevski, MD
Assistant Director
Dr. Lishnevski graduated from the Summa Barberton Family Medicine program in 2006. She then was a physician with the Akron General/Cleveland Clinic Akron General health care system until 2020. She joined Summa Barberton Family Medicine as core faculty in December 2020. She is board certified in family medicine and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine with Northeast Ohio Medical University. Her interests include preventative adult and pediatric care, office procedures, geriatrics, and women's health. She grew up in Wadsworth, Ohio and her spouse and younger sister are also graduates of the Barberton family medicine program. Dr. Lishnevski has 2 children and enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with family.
