Orthopedic Prehabilitation
Prehab is a proactive, exercise-based program designed to strengthen your body before an upcoming joint replacement, spinal surgery or other orthopedic procedure. The stronger and more mobile you are going in, the faster and smoother your recovery coming out.
Your prehab plan is tailored to your specific surgery, fitness level, and goals – and may include targeted strengthening, range-of-motion work, balance training and education on what to expect during recovery.
Benefits may include:
- Reduced post-surgical pain and swelling
- Shorter hospital stays
- Faster return to function
- Lower risk of complications
- Assess and support basic mobility and function – walking, dressing, getting in and out of bed
- Address functional activities such as carrying, reaching and stair navigation
- Coordinate post-discharge care recommendations based on your diagnosis and needs
- Educate you on adapting your home or workspace for a safe return to daily life
- Evaluate equipment needs such as a cane, walker or reacher
- Educate joint replacement patients on donning and doffing of splints or braces
- Provide precaution education and same-day discharge instructions for joint replacement patients
