Research

Fellows must annually participate and present educational material at regional and/or national conferences. A four-week research rotation is included in the first and third years of the plastic surgery curriculum. Fellows must demonstrate annual scholarship and/or academic productivity to include two or more of the following:

• peer-reviewed publications with PubMed-Indexed for Medline (PMID);

• conference presentations, including abstracts and posters, given at international, national, or regional meetings;

• textbook chapter;

• funded or non-funded basic science or clinical outcomes research projects;

• quality improvement projects; or,

• teaching lectures or presentations (e.g., grand rounds) of at least 30 minutes in duration within the Sponsoring Institution or program.

FOUR WEEK RESEARCH ROTATION

1ST WEEK

 Perform Literature Search and Summary of Idea

 Establish and Test Hypothesis at Wednesday Conference

2ND WEEK

 Meet with Trauma Research Program Director to discuss Hypothesis and Next Steps

 Meet with Biostatistician

 Provide Initial Pilot Review at Wednesday Conference

 Complete Application

3RD WEEK

 Meet with IRB Coordinator regarding Application/Submission

 Discuss Application Experience at Wednesday Conference

4TH WEEK

 Work on Initial Review while waiting for IRB decision
