Thank you for your interest in the General Practice Dental Residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio. Our dental program is located in an institution of Medical and Dental Education comprising 20 residencies and fellowships, a house staff of over 250, a facility of 1,200 beds, and a Level 1 trauma center.
The Summa Health Dental Clinic is dedicated to resident education using advanced high technology equipment and a strong clinical and academic educational program. The patient population is large enough to provide a wide variety of experiences for both inpatient and outpatient care.
Our GPR is designed to provide in-depth clinical experiences in oral surgery, endodontics, periodontal treatment (both surgical and non-surgical), prosthodontics (both fixed and removable), and cosmetic dentistry (both direct and indirect) using composite and e.max non-metallic crowns and veneers. Additionally, residents will have the opportunity to assist in the placement and restoration of implants. Residents treat patients with special needs and medically compromised patients in the operating room every week. Treatment planning and case presentations are a vital part of resident experiences. In addition to rotations through cardiology, family medicine, geriatric medicine, and anesthesia, academic lectures are presented by various hospital sub-specialties.
The medical rotations our dental residents experience provide an education in patient dental care which most recent graduates do not receive in dental school. We welcome you to review our program and include Summa Health System in your future academic and professional plans.
