How To Apply

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2023-2024 academic year. Applications for 2024-2025 will open in May, and program leadership will begin reviewing applications in late August. Interviews will be offered on a rolling basis. Position offers will also be made on a rolling basis. We recommend applying early if you are interested in residency at Summa Health!

We welcome you to review our program and include Summa Health System in your academic and professional plans!

Eligibility requirements for the General Practice Residency include graduation from a CODA-accredited institution. Applicants that did not attend a CODA-accredited institution must complete one year in another General Practice Residency (GPR) before they are eligible for Summa’s residency program.

All application materials are submitted through ADEA PASS. If financial hardship is a concern, please contact our program coordinator to discuss options about submitting an application.

Our residency program does not participate in the Match. Program directors typically start viewing applications in late August, with the interview season beginning in September and continuing until the program is full for the upcoming academic year. Offers for the program occur on a rolling basis - we recommend applying early!

What are some of the qualities we look for in a candidate?
How To Apply

  • Has an academic curiosity and wants to learn for the sake of learning. They shows initiative with their patients and their education.
  • Is flexible to adapt to changing situations. Very often the schedule changes throughout the day for a variety of conditions, so the candidate needs to be flexible and able to adapt quickly.
  • Has a sense of humor. Humor goes a long way to help build rapport with patients and staff!
  • Is open to new ideas. Dental school teaches basic concepts and principles to treatment, but in dentistry, there are many ways to achieve similar results – be open to different ideas!
  • Works well with others.  Residents can learn a great deal from teaching staff and fellow residents.
