First Year

We feel interns should receive thorough preparation and support.  That’s why we instituted an orientation month at the beginning of the intern year – and a month of review in June to prepare interns for their role as second year residents.

A typical orientation schedule in the first month would be:
Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 9:15 a.m. on L & D (brief high-yield points presented by the OB chief, triage doc and other available chiefs)

Week 1

Day 1      Early vs active labor
Day 2 Delivery techniques
Day 3 C/S indications
Day 4         ROM

 

Week 2

Day 1      US inservice/fetal position
Day 2 Neonatal Resuscitation Certification Class
Day 3         Abdominal pain in pregnancy
Day 4 Induction indications and methods

 

Week 3

Day 1      Decreased fetal movement/antepartum monitoring
Day 2 & 3  Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Certification Class
Day 3 Antepartum bleeding
Day 4 UTI in pregnancy
Day 5 URI in pregnancy.  Suture Lab.

 

Week 4

Day 1 Trauma in pregnancy
Day 2 Postpartum complications
Day 3 Hyperemesis
Day 4 VBAC
Day 5 OB anesthesia, analgesia
