Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery
Plastic surgery is a broad field that encompasses both cosmetic (aesthetic) and reconstructive procedures. Reconstructive surgery is typically performed to restore correct form and function following abnormalities caused by birth defects, injury, disease, or aging. Its goal is typically to improve body function. Cosmetic surgery is usually performed to enhance or change body shape or appearance and not considered medically necessary. In some cases, a procedure thought to be cosmetic in nature can be performed to achieve a reconstructive goal as well.
Multidiscipline Approach
Offering a multidiscipline approach, Summa Health’s cosmetic and reconstructive surgery experts work in close collaboration with ENT, the breast center, dental and orthodontia, orthopedics, vascular, weight management and general surgery to offer simple-to-complex treatments, like Post Mohs excision surgery to remove skin cancer, breast reconstruction and nerve and tendon transfers to address paralysis of the face.
In fact, the expertise of reconstructive plastic surgery is often needed by other disciplines to “close the loop” of treatment. A plastic surgeon’s special skills can improve healing and reduce scarring when a wound is large, jagged or cannot be covered with the skin currently at the site.

Breast Reconstructive Surgery
Patients who have had surgery as part of their breast cancer treatment may choose oncoplastic and breast reconstructive surgery to rebuild the shape and look of the breast.

With our innovative and collaborative approach to treatment, Summa Health plastic and reconstructive surgeons collaborate with interventional radiologists, anesthesiologists and other specialists to treat lymphatic disorders.
Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic plastic surgery includes surgical and nonsurgical procedures that enhance and reshape structures of the body to tighten and improve the appearance of skin, adjust facial features, and much more.
Injectables
Summa Health cosmetic experts use a variety of FDA approved filler products, including Botox, to enhance shallow contours, remove wrinkles and more.
Meet the Cosmetic and Reconstructive Team
Regardless of the type of plastic surgery, patients should ensure their surgeon is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
