About the Artwork

Whispering Shannon is a masterful example of Tara Lynn’s skill in ceramics, chosen for its striking form and evocative color palette, which immediately engage the viewer. The piece’s undulating, fluid contours invite the eye to trace its curves and surfaces, suggesting motion, whether a gentle breeze or the sensation of something moving beneath the surface of water. The title, Whispering Shannon, adds another layer of sensory engagement, implying the quiet ebb and flow of sound, even as the viewer’s sight is absorbed in the piece’s shape and texture. The sculpture evokes not only a visual response but a tactile one as well, encouraging a deeper connection through its organic form.

About the Artist

Tara Lynn portrait

Lynn’s work is deeply autobiographical, with each piece evolving into its own “organic personality” over weeks of careful production. She describes the creative process as one of surrender and trust, allowing the piece to develop its own identity. This approach results in sculptures that reflect her own life journey and speak to the uniqueness of each creation. Whispering Shannon is a beautiful representation of this philosophy, embodying both growth and introspection.

In comparison, you may also find it interesting to explore Dale Chihuly’s King’s Persian located in the ground floor lobby, directly beneath this artwork, offering a contrast between Lynn’s ceramics and Chihuly’s glasswork.

"Each piece takes approximately four to eight weeks, evolving from my mind's eye to its own organic personality. I have learned to let go of the process, while staying focused on continued growth and trusting my Higher Power with the outcome. I believe the pieces are a gift, no two alike, reflecting my life and telling the story of who I am." Lynn states.

Lynn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from Kent State University and has taught art at her alma mater, Our Lady of the Elms in Akron.
