David Deckert, M.D.We appreciate your interest in our Psychiatry Residency Program. We offer an exceptional training experience in an atmosphere that promotes contemporary skills with appreciation of the importance of the doctor/patient relationship.  The Program is based on the Summa Health System campuses. Our resources include multiple inpatient units, including a Gero-psych Unit, a partial hospital program, IOPs for both psychiatry and addiction, a medical detox unit, and a vibrant consultation liaison service. Akron Children’s Hospital provides a setting for 2 months of training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Akron Children’s also offers a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship which is affiliated with our program. Community Psychiatry training is integrated across all years and venues of care utilizing several contract agencies of the Summit County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Board. The major strengths of our program are the quality and dedication of our faculty, and the diversity of our clinical training sites. If your credentials meet our requirements, we encourage you to apply to our program via ERAS in the fall. Our minimum requirements are:

  • Be a graduate of no more than 5 years from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada or of an international medical school listed by the World Health Organization
  • Achieve a passing score on the USMLE/COMLEX within the first two attempts
  • 6 months of clinical experience in the U.S.
  • An excellent verbal and written command of the English language
  • 3 letters of reference; at least one from a Psychiatrist that you have worked with
  • Apply via ERAS before December 31st
