Introduction

The purpose of this course is to provide guidance in evaluating and enhancing the safety and security of your workplace and for the training of employees to respond to workplace violence. While this course is centered on healthcare, the techniques and information are applicable to any business of any size. The multifold approach enhances safety and security through both employee training and building enhancement. The information is also applicable to daily life at home or while out and about as skills are applied outside of the work environment.

For your workplace, you will learn to assess for safety and security, assess your level of risk of violence, evaluate options for improving your workplace’s safety and security, and track your decision-making and progress.

For your employees, you will learn how to help them understand the importance of situational awareness, learn about the safety features of their work areas and how to benefit from these features, how to de-escalate potentially violent situations, and learn when and how to take additional actions if de-escalation techniques are ineffective, up to and including an active shooter situation.

Education provides employees the opportunity to develop a survivor mindset and empowers them to respond effectively to threats and mitigate harm. From a business with a single employee to those with hundreds, this course will guide you towards a safer and more secure workplace.
