Zig Zag

About the Art

Andrea Joki’s Zig Zag offers a visual journey that reflects the rhythms and unpredictability of life. Using a blend of oil and acrylic, she creates a layered composition that moves the eye across the canvas in a way that feels both deliberate and spontaneous. The shifting forms and energetic lines suggest a sense of momentum yet also invite stillness and reflection.

Through abstraction, Joki explores the space between structure and emotion. Her work encourages viewers to pause, breathe, and consider the many paths that healing and transformation can take. At Summa Health, we believe that art plays an important role in well-being. Zig Zag provides a moment of calm and curiosity that supports our commitment to caring for the whole person.

About the Artist

Andrea Joki's work explores ideas of time, change, and the process of becoming through a wide range of painting methods. Rather than focusing on a single style, she embraces painting as a form of open-ended research. Her abstract language often brings together both precise shapes and expressive brushwork, creating a unique visual balance.

In her ongoing project titled Site Clocks, Joki allows the painting process to unfold naturally. She invites elements like water and gravity to guide how the paint moves across the surface, letting nature become part of the creative act.

Joki received her Master of Fine Arts from Kent State University in Ohio and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the Akron Art Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art, as well as in solo and collaborative shows across the United States. She has received several honors, including an Individual Excellence Award in Painting from the Ohio Arts Council and fellowships from artist residencies such as the Headlands Center for the Arts, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Vermont Studio Center.

Andrea Joki now lives and works in Los Angeles, where she maintains an active studio practice in the Bendix Building in the downtown arts district.
