We provide customized education to outside hospitals and health systems including personalized attending physician refresher courses. Several non-Summa residency, PA, Respiratory Therapy and NP programs and local universities have utilized our services to train their students. We work with faculty from outside programs to develop a training program/curriculum that meets their desired goals and objectives. Some examples of programs are:

"We incorporate simulation activities on day 3 of our critical care/telemetry orientation. During simulation, we integrate the didactic material learned in the classroom. The nurse now has the ability to apply knowledge into practice. This method solidifies learning while also enhancing assessment skills. Simulation promotes critical thinking and clinical judgement for our nurses during critical care/telemetry orientation. Staff and learners obtain immediate feedback while performing simulation. This formative feedback assists in the debriefing exercise. Debriefing allows the group to analyze the scenario and process the events that have taken place. It promotes discussion that will enhance further learning. Nurses have shared in evaluations that they are more comfortable and confident after the simulation laboratory experience. They feel better prepared to enter the clinical setting."

"The simulation team is amazing! They are well organized and make sure to pay attention to all the little details that makes the simulation successful. They assisted with the planning and work closely with us for continual improvement. Our residents are better prepared because of the realistic training they received from our simulation lab."
Melissa Wheeler

"The simulation sessions provided by VSCL are an excellent and innovative way for our physician assistant students to apply skills in a risk-free environment that accurately reflects a clinical setting. Learners are able to physically interact with simulators by obtaining a history, conducting a physical exam, and making diagnostic and therapeutic decisions while being supported by the simulation team. Following each session, students receive immediate feedback through interactive debriefing discussions by leading medical professionals. Our students gain invaluable knowledge and highly recommend this training experience to their peers."

"The simulation lab was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had. As a medical student, it was a great opportunity to gain exposure to real life situations that were beyond the pages of a text book. The staff was very interactive and provided students with fun ways to learn difficult concepts."

"As a Nurse Practitioner and Educator for two Adult Gero Acute Care Nurse Practitioner programs, I have had the pleasure for our students to participate in Summa's Virtual Care Simulation Lab every year. The experience has always been a highlight for our students and they appreciate the one on one instruction on various procedures and skills from this talented group of instructors. The staff is knowledgeable, patient and willing to share their expertise with each student.
The Simulation staff was wonderful and every student benefitted from this experience. Thank you for providing this opportunity to our Nurse Practitioner students, the experience is invaluable!"
