The Summa Health Equity Center recognizes the benefits of wellness and prevention as a part of your overall good health. Our collaborative team will work closely with you to develop safe and healthy exercise and nutrition plans that meet your personal health and fitness goals, all to help you get healthy – and stay healthy.

Whether you’re a beginner or advanced fitness guru, Zumba is a great alternative to traditional fitness programs and can feel more like a party than a workout!

De-Stress and Refresh Yoga WebEx / Thursdays, 6 – 7 p.m.
Yoga has been shown to increase muscle strength, reduce weight, improve immune systems, lower blood pressure and reduce stress and anxiety. But you don’t have to go to a pricey yoga studio to get a great workout. The Summa Health Equity Center offers community yoga classes taught by experienced, certified instructors who will lead you through a slow-paced yoga class, perfect for beginner and intermediate participants.

SWEET Life
If you are overweight or have a family history of diabetes or high blood pressure, you can take advantage of this complimentary 15-week community program. Featuring a health assessment, cooking demonstrations, nutrition classes, group exercise and more, the SWEET Life provides practical ways to help you improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Sessions are led by counselors who specialize in nutrition and behavioral wellness.
Eligible participants must be:
• 18 years of age and older
• Not pregnant
• Not diabetic
• Willing to make small lifestyle changes

DrumFIT Fitness
DrumFIT Fitness is a simple, fun way to impact adults and kid’s lives both physically and mentally. It is a cardio-based drumming program that combines physical activity with brain fitness.
Students are increasing their overall well-being drumming away stress, getting fit and listening to some amazing music. DrumFIT Fitness is a choreographed format where participants use drum sticks during this amazing, energetic workout which targets various eaters of the body, legs, arms--it’s totally a full body workout but students don’t feel like their working out because they are having fun. Drumming increases the heart rate, gets the heart pumping and blood flowing, resulting in an effective aerobic workout. DrumFIT Fitness is exciting and it’s for anyone and of any age.
An hour of drumming burns more calories than running, aerobics or weightlifting.
DrumFIT is an incredible Physical Education Program taught by Coach Carmen Williams who is a Certified Master Life Coach, certified Fitness and Zumba Instructor. Get registered for class today!

Cook Well, Eat Well, Live Well
Join us in collaboration with SipSavorSoul and Let’s Grow Akron and learn how to cook healthy meals with locally grown ingredients and produce. A healthy diet supports growth and development in children and can help prevent chronic diseases in adults like Type 2 diabetes, certain cancers and heart disease.
You will learn the many benefits of growing, cooking and eating produce grown locally and harvested in season. The necessary food items to prepare each meal at home, along with a standard kitchen supply, will be provided upon completion of each session.
Please note: When registering for a class, please put the TOTAL number of people coming with you from the same household in the “Number of Slots.” If you have other family members that are coming to the event but live in a different household, they must register separately.

Healthier Holiday Recipes: Cooking Demonstration

Chef Glenn from Edgar’s restaurant in Akron shared a holiday cooking demonstration with us. He explored small changes to an entrée, side dish and dessert in order to make them healthier – all without sacrificing taste, of course!
