Summa Health EMS Pledge
Our EMS Pledge clearly specifies what EMS can expect when they arrive at any Summa Health emergency department. According to our pledge, we will be:
- Attentive
- Respectful
- Customer accountable
Pre-Arrival
- We will closely monitor appropriate communication channels to receive your report.
- We will coordinate prompt access to an online medical control control physician when requested.
- We will activate appropriate specialty teams to expedite the care of your patient based on clinical criteria or per your request.
On Arrival
- You and your patient will be greeted respectfully.
- If a delay in bed placement occurs, clear communication of wait time will be shared with your crew and patient.
- Once your patient is placed in a bed, our staff member will introduce themselves and listen to your report in its entirety.
After Patient Transfer
- We will maintain an area dedicated to EMS providers, where you can find refreshments that include healthy choices.
- We will care for, including cleaning, any equipment that you leave with us.
- If you do not visit our facility regularly, we will ship the equipment to you in a timely fashion.
Your Experience
- We value your opinion and your feedback is important to us.
- We will provide an electronic mechanism to evaluate your experience, whether good or bad, every time you visit us and will listen to and act on your feedback.

Initial Training Programs
The role of EMS has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years. Advances in medicine and technology have increased the role of our local area EMS providers. Recognizing the vital role of EMS, Summa Health System has strived to work on achieving optimum patient care through the advancement of emergency medical protocols, technological upgrades and educational offerings. In an effort to better serve our EMS community, we are proud to offer the following initial educational opportunities.

Emergency Medical Technician Training
Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life-threatening emergencies.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training
Advanced emergency medical technicians (AEMTs) provide advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system.

Paramedic Training
Paramedics are allied health professionals who possesses the complex knowledge and skills to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients.
IMS Resources
EMS Patient Protocol and Procedures
Patient care protocols are specific orders directing the actions pertaining to techniques and/or medications used by EMS personnel. Procedures are not considered rigid rules, but rather established standards against which EMS practice can be measured.
