The Summa Health System ACGME accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship is based in the Department of Family Medicine and is a one year program that accepts two fellows per year. The Fellows will work closely with the Summa Health Sports Medicine. Fellows are accepted after completing an approved primary training program in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), or Internal Medicine/ Pediatrics (IM/ Peds). We accept both allopathic and osteopathic physicians. The Fellows will benefit from the experience of our Program Faculty in multiple disciplines and will encounter a broad spectrum of patient problems. The diversity of medical problems, patients, faculty, and event coverage experiences will provide depth and breadth to the Fellows' training as they progress through the year.
To advance the field of primary care sports medicine through the training of highly motivated, qualified individuals and to provide excellence in the services provided through our practice.
We strive to offer an exciting year of opportunities that spans the entire breadth of primary care sports medicine. Our program is designed for responsible, self-directed learners who desire exposure to covering professional and high school sports, as well as didactic sessions spanning various areas of orthopedic medicine, wellness education, sports nutrition, sports psychology and performance medicine.
We provide coverage opportunities where the fellows are expected to manage acute sports traumatology and general sports medicine issues.
We provide a wide range of orthopedic specialty rotations to enhance one’s knowledge base in these sub-specialty areas.
We respect the fact that fellows have new ideas, which may improve our program and enthusiastically welcome this exchange in a collegial atmosphere within our group.
