The one-year ACGME accredited fellowship program provides the Sports Medicine Fellows with clinical experiences through a variety of opportunities. The teaching staff that has been assembled includes physicians who are eager to teach, and nationally recognized experts in their respective fields. This will provide the Fellows a rich learning environment.
Most of the teaching staff is either part of Summa Health Orthopedic Institute or Summa Health Sports Medicine.
Fellows will be in charge of their own high schools, including event coverage and weekly injury checks.
Collegiate coverage is at Mount Union University (NCAA Div. III). Coverage includes football in the fall and a variety of sports in the winter and spring.
Professional baseball coverage is required through event coverage with the Akron Rubber Ducks (Cleveland Indians AA Affiliate).
Mass event coverage opportunities that are required include the Akron Marathon Race Series, Medina ½ Marathon, OHSAA tournament, and many other road races. The Fellow will be part of the planning stages of mass event coverage and day of event coverage.
Fellows will also be exposed to musculoskeletal ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided injections), compartment pressure testing, fracture care, joint injections, autologous blood injections, PRP injections, and much more.
