Summa Health Sports Medicine Fellowship is a 1-year ACGME accredited program committed to training physicians in the subspecialty of primary care Sports Medicine, who will then be able to provide both quality evidence-based care as well as to apply innovative ways to better care for patients. This may include case reports, case series, quality improvement (QI), program elevation (PE, human subject research, including research involving existing data and bio specimens), Lean Six Sigma, animal research, and bench research, are all ways to advance quality of care.
Research Curriculum is integrated into the academic year of the Sports Medicine Fellowship training. Support for scholarly activities comes from the Summa Health Research, Sponsored Programs & innovation (R, SP&I), and Sports Medicine faculty mentors. Fellows are also expected to complete CITI training during orientation.

The Curriculum Goal is to provide Sports Medicine Fellows with a learning environment for them to establish innovative ways to provide the highest quality care for orthopedic and sports medicine patients. The education follows recommendations as provided by Summa Health Fellowship research and Scholarly curriculum. Upon completion of Summa Sports Fellowship training, the fellow would be expected to complete a research and scholarly curriculum activity. This could include a case presentation, case report, or quality improvement initiative.
