On Tuesday, March 25, members of The Circle of Women’s Health Philanthropists enjoyed a casual fireside chat hosted by neuroscience expert and Circle member Dr. Susana Bowling at her home. As medical director of the Summa Health Neuroscience Institute and a board-certified neurologist, Dr. Bowling brings over 20 years of experience to the field. She has been dedicated to Summa Health since 2008 and led numerous advancements in patient care.
“We appreciate Dr. Bowling’s nationally renowned expertise in neuroscience and the numerous accolades the Summa Health Neuroscience Institute has earned under her leadership and direction,” said Jessica Hudson, president of Summa Foundation and chief development officer at Summa Health. “As a fellow Circle member, we are proud of all that she has achieved.”
During her conversation with Circle members, Dr. Bowling highlighted the excellence of the Summa Health Neuroscience Institute, which is ranked among the top 5 percent nationally and No. 1 in Ohio for neurosciences, cranial neurosurgery and stroke care. She discussed the institute’s Comprehensive Stroke Center, advancements in neurocritical care and vascular neurology, and the launch of the Dementia Center of Excellence.
Also that evening, Ginnie Abell, Circle chair, provided an update on the Summa Health Smart Start Program, which has expanded to include a radiology program, with the Circle’s support. She also shared exciting news of Summa Health’s partnership with The University of Akron to offer no-cost nursing degrees to registered nurses within Summa Health.
The Circle is a network of women leaders who share a philanthropic vision of improving the overall health and well-being of women in the community. Members contribute a tax-deductible donation of $2,500 annually and $1,000 for young professional members under the age of 40. These gifts are then combined to fund a specific need related to women’s health, determined by a vote of members. Members are invited to renew their support for this year by contributing to areas meaningful to them or past Circle grant recipients.
